A transactional leadership is based on a military like clear chain of command with a ‘Carrot and Stick’ philosophy. It is a confirmed method of running an organization where, through reward and punishment, work gets done. The transactional leadership in organizations theory is one, which is most widespread and commonly used in most organizations.

Pros: This technique works in most of the circumstances, when functional, provided the employees are motivated by rewards. It is a proven compliance strategy, which works best if the top most leaders in the hierarchy are capable of making most of the important decisions and is a strong personality.

Transformational Leadership

This theory believes that people rise higher through positive motivation, than negative motivation. Transformational leadership in organizations believes in inspiring employees to do great work through example and the force of a leader’s personality.

Leadership in Organizations: Observing Leadership Styles and Emotional Intelligence

A direct impact in leadership styles in organizations also impacts the financial results. There are styles that create a free working environment and others that bring more harm than good in an organization.  Leaders who have positive results on the working environment reap better financial benefits than those that have a negative impact. Specifically, leaders who have mastered the four positive styles (authoritative, democratic, affiliate, and coaching) have the most preferred environment and business performance.

However different situations call for different styles of leadership, good styles can be learned through understanding which emotional intelligence competencies are inlaid in each style.

Leadership in Organizations: On Difference between a Manager and A leader

Different styles of leadership in organizations can be defined when we separate managers and leaders

Managers: A manager is a person who has control or direction of an institution, business, and organization. Not all managers are leaders since managers just know how to reprimand and demand results without actually getting to know and relating with his staff.

Leader: A leader is a person who rules, guides, or inspires others, a leader isn’t a person who is in authority but his ability to serve and guide his fellow colleagues earns him a higher post in the organization.
