insp 2 300x250 Christ

The Mystery of Christ is portrayed in the Bible beginning from Genesis to revelation.  In the Old Testament there are many fore- shadows of Christ which I will discuss in details.  People believed in the coming of the messiah/ Christ and thus received salvation.   The book of Mathew 16: 13-20 exposes that Jesus is the Christ whom all people had been waiting for since the fall of man in the Garden of Eden as we read in Genesis3:1-6.

The title Christ in the New Testament and Messiah in the Old Testament means the anointed one of God.   Three kinds of people were anointed in the Old Testament, to set them apart for their separate duties.  These were Prophets, Priests and Kings.  The role of Prophets was to show people the way to be reconciled back to God.  The role of Priests was to offer blood sacrifice to cover the sins of people where as the role of Kings was to destroy another kingdom and to rule.

Christ as the true Prophet declared in John 14:6, “I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.  As the True Priest, Christ shed all his blood on the cross to solve the problem of sin and as the true King, Christ destroyed the Kingdom of Satan when he died on the cross and rose from the dead. Christ seen in the Old Testament

Christ1). Christ is the offspring of the woman. In the book of Genesis3; after the fall of man, the Lord proclaimed Christ to them (Genesis 3:15).  Here Christ is portrayed as the offspring of the woman who would crush the head of the enemy.

2). Christ was seen through the mystery of blood sacrifice (Genesis 3:21), the Lord covered Adam and Eve with garments of skin.  This garments had a significance of blood sacrifice. These people had become sinners.  The leaves they were trying to cover themselves with were an element of religion which could never solve their fundamental problem of separation from God, Sin and being in the hands of the Devil.  Hebrews 9:22, states clearly that without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sin.  All blood sacrifices in the Old Testament, were a fore shadow of Christ who would later come to shed his blood on the cross.

The time when Cain and Abel were giving their offerings, Cain’s offering was not accepted because it lacked blood, thus did not embrace the mystery of Christ.  Abel’s sacrifice was accepted because it had blood.  Failure in worship that embraced the foreshadow of Christ in the Old Testament, led to failure in Life the way Cain failed.  Abraham also failed in worship when he did not split one animal to shed blood. As a result of that, the Lord told him that his descendants will be slaves for over four hundred years (Genesis 15 :). This was later fulfilled when the Israelites became slaves in Egypt.  In Egypt, the Israelites were not set free until they applied blood on their door frames. This blood was signifying Christ who would die on the cross to set us free from the bondage of Satan.

3). Christ as Noah’s Ark

During Noah’s time, people were so wicked that every thought which they had was evil all the time. It was that time when the Lord instructed Noah to build an Ark.  Those inside the Ark were saved and those outside the Ark perished (Genesis icon smile Christ

4). Christ seen as the bronze snake in the wilderness

John 3:14, Just as Moses lifted the snake in the wilderness, so the son of man must be lifted up, that every one who believes in him may have eternal life.

5). Christ as the Spiritual Rock from which the Israelites drank when they lacked water in the wilderness (1Corinthians 10:3-4) “they drank from the Spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ.”

 Christ seen in New Testament

One time Jesus Christ was talking to a Samaritan woman (John4:25-26) the woman said, “I know that messiah called Christ is coming when he comes he will explain every thing to us.  Then Jesus declared, I who speak to you am he.” Since the fall of man, people were waiting for Christ and for this they held to various fore shadows.

In the region of Caesarea Philippi, Jesus asked his disciples, “Who do people say the son of man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” “But what about you Jesus asked.”   “Who do you say I am?”  Simon Peter answered, you are the Christ the son of the living God (Mathew 16:13-16).  The moment Peter confessed that Jesus is the Christ; Jesus pronounced unique blessings upon his life.  This is the kind of blessings which every one who discovers Jesus as the Christ enjoy.

The blessings enjoyed by those who have discovered Jesus as the Christ

1). The Lord himself builds them (Mathew 16:18)

2). the gates of Hades will not overcome them.   Having discovered Christ, forces of darkness can never overcome you.

3). The Lord gives them the keys of the kingdom of Heaven that whatever they bind on earth is bound in Heaven and whatever they lose on earth is loosed in Heaven.  This are blessing of answered prayers given to God’s children who have discovered that Jesus is the Christ the son of the living God.

With Christ, you have royal authority to bind all forces of darkness (Luke 10:19).  Though the Devil may tempt you, Christ will always provide a way out (1Corrinthians 10:13).

The mystery of Christ discovered by Paul

Paul who was a great scholar of his time made some memorable confessions.  Some of his great confessions are as follows:

1). whatever was to my profit, I consider as rubbish compared to the greatness of knowing Christ (Philippians 3:7-10)

2). I want to be found in Christ not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the low but a righteousness by faith on Christ Jesus.

3). I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection

4). Christ is the mystery of God and in him are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Colossians 2:2-3).

As I have detailed discussed above, it is evident that Christ is the co of the whole Bible. I bless you in the name of Jesus Christ that your faith life will be centered on Christ alone.
